Thomas joined Melbourne Water in 2008, bringing a wealth of nearly 40 years of experience in all facets of public works infrastructure, including 30 years dedicated to diverse management roles across various organizations, with a keen focus on environmental sustainability.
His expertise spans the breadth of public works engineering, coupled with a strategic perspective on infrastructure matters, emphasizing long-term sustainability and the application of insightful learnings to enhance asset management practices. Since 2003, Thomas has been instrumental in bridging research findings with practical industry applications. He has consistently translated research outcomes into tangible outputs such as codes, specifications, guidelines, and standards. Additionally, his facilitation of workshops and establishment of knowledge hubs have further disseminated valuable insights within the industry.
Thomas’s commitment to standards development is evidenced by his decade-long involvement with Standards Australia. Moreover, his significant contribution as the Victorian representative of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia’s National Asset Management Steering Committee (2002-2015) played a pivotal role in shaping the International Infrastructure Management Manual. This manual served as the cornerstone for the ISO55000 series of Asset Management Standards, underlining Thomas’s profound impact on industry standards and best practices.
